The little culprit responsible for my absence

This is the sweet little culprit responsible for my absence from my blog from the last 10 days .
some 7 days ago hubby came back from work and entered the house with this little guy in his arms he found this stray on the street . Me and my daughters were so busy in our "ooooooos" and "Awwwws" that almost forgot that we were all strangers for him and he was quite uncomfortable. I picked him up and noticed that he was pretty injured too, most probably had a bad.. bad fight with another cat. Then all of the sudden it jumped off my lap and ran out of the house and out of our sight :( we all were shocked and sad any how life continued and the next day when i was going to drop my daughter to school i saw him out side my gate eating some thing out of the garbage bag with shivering paws in the cold i really felt sorry for him i softly went near him he was still was scared but didn't ran away so i picked him up and put him in my car ,dropped my daughter in school and brought him home .He was quite dirty, wanted to bathe him but i thought it would be too much of an experience for him and me on the first day so i added a few drops of anti bacterial into water socked a brush in it and cleaned its fur ,put some skin ointment on his wounds fed him up and gave him a basket with an old baby blanket to sleep in ,he slept for about 5 hours and when he woke up he was all so friendly with the whole family like if he was living with us for ages.

My daughter named him "Coco".It did took us all a while to settle down and get used to to each other but now Coco is a full time play mate for my girls and a furry friend for me to cuddle with in the morning when hubby and girls are away.

chick hatching from egg video

This is about an year old video , i was just going through these on my PC and finally decided to share this one with you all.
After a long waiting period of 21 days our hen Bamby got her precious brood ,these moments were far more exciting for her then they were for us but i still enjoy watching these videos .This was our first and successful experience of hatching our own chicks from our own flock's fertilized eggs ,dont worry its only 90 seconds long, but worth watching :)

This is Bamby the leg horn mother now 7 years old and the senior most member of our flock.

The black chick that you just saw hatching is now one year old hen (Bamby's daughter).

"How i escaped from a monster"

Today was a religious holiday in my country so we woke up a little late then usual, when i was washing my face in the wash room i noticed some fresh bird poop on the basin ,my first reaction was... yuk !but then the other question that came to my mind was that who does it belong to and how and where it came from?
The answer was right over my head ,when i looked up at the exhaust fan a cute little bird was sitting over it who came inside from the exhaust fan's hole but then couldn't get out of it ,then it flew out of the bathroom and started struggling to get it self out of the bed room window ,my camera was near me so i took a few shots to share with u all

when i went near the window to open it she flew back and sat on our rocking chair

the poor thing was so terrified that all she could think was " this human is trying to catch me and eat me, that's it nothing good can be expected from them after all ".
I the monster some how managed to open up the widow and when i moved back she flew again to save herself from the scary human "God does this species ever get tired of chasing us "

out and free to tell her friends that how lucky she was today to dodge a wicked hunter who was trying to trap and catch it in her house and eventually EAT it but..........as it was not her time so she found a small opening in the home and escaped back to her family ,Happy ending!.......:)

treating a broken leg of birds

Last month on my birthday thats the gift i received from my hubby aren't they gorgeous ,what a beautiful gift .My husband knows that i just love pets so he got this pair of geese for me .

When hubby went to collect them from the owner one of the geese went through a horrible accident, in the attempt to catch them the female goose ran out of the house on the road and a car drove over her leg so she arrived with a broken leg to my home i was both happy and sad at the same time ,what i did was that i placed her leg between 2 ice cream sticks and fixed them around her leg with sticking tape ,gave her some antibiotics and amazingly with in a month she is all OK as you can see in the pictures

enjoying a romantic walk in our back yard

You can't run away from death

Two days ago i had a very usual and busy day nothing special occurred except when i went out late night to open up the dog , i noticed some thing slightly white near my gate i went towards it and to my surprise it was a very pretty cute little pigeon i picked it up effortlessly which was a sign that he was not feeling well. I brought him inside the house gave him some water and bread crumbs which he ate very whole heartedly ,but i was totally confused that if he is sick then sick birds usually dont eat that eagerly but on the other hand he was really slow i showed him to my hubby he thought that may be he is really tired after struggling to scape a cat attack or so .... just let him rest ....

A thought did crossed my mind to keep him as a pet but my this love for pets is already converting my home into a mini sized zoo :) so i decided to just let him rest on our terrace which is totally out of the reach of cats and in the morning if he is feeling better he can fly away
the night was over and a brand new day started i opened up the terrace door .....AH! what a pleasant surprise the pigeon was not there which means that after rest he felt better and flew away ......... end of the story .

NO not really thats not the end of the story whole day long i had such a good feeling that i was able to help some one in need but then in the after noon when i went to our back yard to check our chickens and ducks my mouth was left open and i was totally speech less for a while that poor pigeon try to fly away and some how came down stairs and there Sasha our aggressive watch dog killed it ... all those good feelings replaced them selves with sadness and guilt that i shouldn't have placed him on the terrace ,but gradually as the time is passing i am realizing that no one can be blamed for this, i never wanted this to happen ,the pigeon was only trying to avail his freedom and Sasha the Villon in this story has an instinct to pray the only thing logical is that You Just Can't Run Away from death,it will come to you .

good bye little friend....

Be aware of the neck collar sores in pet dogs

About an year and a half ago when we bought Sasha, she was just four months old and with a lot of behavior problems .At pet shop she was really upset with a complete stranger(the shop keeper) so she tried her best to free her self and in this struggle she learned how to slide her head out of the neck collar so the pet shop owner had to tie the neck collar as tight as possible to get hold of her .The wise shop keeper who was very much willing to sell dogs never realized that he is in a desperate need of a cage to hold such big and power full animals,it also took me a while to learn how to control her but once she realized that i am the friend she is the most loving pet i have ever had (look at the sweet look on her face when i am patting her head ... trust me she does not look that sweet all the times :)........) .Sasha is my first ever dog! had no previous experience of dog keeping .The second day when we brought her home i realized that when we try to get hold of her by the chain that was attached to her collar she would become very rest less and would behave very strangely i had a feeling that may be her neck collar is hurting her so i opened it up ....Oh my GOD .....that was the most pain full sight i had ever seen, the poor thing was having a big soar on her skin under the collar ,the tight collar caused continues trauma to her skin and eventually became the reason for the injury, we had to remove the collar and kept her on our covered terrace , treated the injury with skin ointments ,gave her anti biotics in milk (thanks to my hubby who is a Doctor) and she was all well in 2 weeks .

Sasha is our watch dog and is quite aggressive too, with young kids around we have to be care full and have to tie her up from time to time but now we take care of the following 2 rules
  • the collar should be loose enough to rotate in the neck of the dog .
  • take the collar off every night so the skin have a chance to recover naturally .
Sasha is 1 and a half years old now and just by observing the above simple rules she never had a neck collar injury again . :)

packet of joy found on road....!

A few days ago on our way back to home after picking up my elder daughter from school we saw this little baby walking on the side of the road and my daughters were instently head over heals in love with it and my car was full of such sounds"awwww so cute" "awww"' mama can we take him home ,"OOOO mama please please please" , i will be a good girl and i will do my studies very nicly" see it might die all alone hear" after five minutes i surrendered in front of my daughters and my temptation to help the lost puppy , i turned my car around and went near it . Khadija just couldn't wait to get out of the car and bring this little puppy in .

after 5 minutes drive we were at home ,the first thing we did was we gave her a warm bath and then fed her. As we found it in our own colony so i called every house around but no one seems to own him she is probably some stray dog's baby and in our city we don't have any animal shelters so i decided to keep her for a while until we find another home for JOY ..... Yes we named her joy as her arrival made us all so happy and my daughters just love to play with it for hours .....But i am trying to instill this in their minds that we have joy only for a while ,when she grows up a little and when we find a good home for her she will leave, so that my daughters are mentally prepared for it .I know we all just cant help to get attached with her but we have to do whats good for joy and our family ,we already have Sasha a grown up Dobber man and she is extremely possessive about her territory and i really fear that if she see joy she has the full tendency to kill it so we have to keep her indoors away from her sight ........lets pray we find a good home for joy

joy in my Lap :)

The Cockrel Attack.......

Have i ever told you people that we are keeping a huge flock of chickens in our back yard consisting 9 chickens and 2 cockerels well you must be thinking that 11 chickens is not so huge but let me tell you some thing when the ratio is 1: care taker to 11: care receivers then it is huge and specially when all the 11 have different personalities :) i am not kidding every bird has a personality of its own some are friendly ,some shy and some are aggressive like this guy we are having

This is Massimo the Alpha male of our flock who just love to boost around and show off his majestic beauty, running and chasing after other chickens with fluffed up feathers and walk in the gate of a proud king . Recently this proud king decided to boss the small sized humans too whom we in our language call " children" . A few days ago it attacked Khadeeja my elder daughter and that poor thing got so scared of the chickens that she just refuses to go alone in the back yard and then one day it charged at my younger daughter well thank God it didn't injure her as i was around ,i noticed that he is standing in front of her and sort of challenging her to initiate a fight that was quite funny well it angered me and i fired my shoe at him which didn't hit him but was quite enough to scare him off and he thought that this move was made by the toddler so he retreated and thats not all now he just don't have the guts to stand in front of the mighty warrior who is just 2 and a half feet tall :) as far as Khadija is concerned she is still scared of the dread full brown enemy but now she also has high defenses and goes to the back yard fully armed with a shopping bag full of all sorts of ammunition like shoes, sandals, baby slippers etc and use these according to the need of the situation and finally Mr.Massimo has learned his lesson that humans are definitely not his domain so better keep his bossing restricted to his own kind .

Well i must say Massimo is a very clever bird who realized very soon that who is the boss around other wise he might have to experience the human capability of transforming their chicken enemies into delicious dinners :)

removing ticks from your dog

This is Sasha our watch dog, we bought her Six months ago from a local pet shop she was just four months old at that time .This is our first dog keeping experience so i didn't knew much about dog care ,one day when i was fondling her while she was playing around my children i saw a strange skin colored growth in her neck hair at first i didn't bother as it was very small but then gradually it started to grow rapidly then i got worried and decided to find out what was going on it was when i examined it closely i noticed small black legs and a small head then i realized it was some sort of a bug which was feeding on my dogs blood i got really worried searched on internet and found out that it was a tick then after much research i found some ways of removing them from the dogs including burning them with a mach stick or applying Vaseline on its body to make them stop breathing and also freezing it with ice i tried every thing but it was not ready to leave the dog then one day i was discussing the matter with my elder brother he told me to simply pull the tick off with the help of tweezers. I tried it and really worked ,

Photo ©2000 Jim Kalisch, UNL Entomology - Family Ixodidae

let me tell you the procedure in detail

  • wear disposable gloves
  • with the help of tweezers hold the tick from its head which would be buried in the skin so try to dig in as much as possible then simply pull the tick away

  • if during the process the head of the tick is broken and is separated from its body then try to pull off the head again in the second try and put some antibacterial medicine on the wound i always use iodine it works fine .
  • once you are done with the procedure remove and discard your gloves and properly sterilize the tweezers .
  • you can avoid your dog from having ticks by not letting him roam about in long grass or bushy areas specially in summers and rainy seasons check your dog frequently for tics and if u find any remove them there and then don't wait for them to grow because when the tick is removed before it becomes engorged with blood, there is very little chance of it transmitting Lyme disease .
now after having some experience i am always ON CALL tick remover from family and friends :)

Snowy the loving Bantam

The story of snowy starts from the day when one of my hens got broody. I tried my level best to get her out of her broody state but she was so determined to have a family so I and my husband decided to give her some eggs to sit on so we went to the local pet market and bought 5 bantam eggs .Bantam is a small breed of hens very loving and friendly they are great pets but not very good layers.

I made some necessary arrangements that included a separate compartment for the mother hen, placed the eggs on a cotton lined wide clay plate . I use the clay plate because it keeps the eggs in place and they don’t accidently roll out and get cold, a small feeder and a water container was also placed inside for the convenience of the mother hen and she was more then happy to adopt the 5 bantam eggs in the new house made just for her and her future brood. It was after 21 long days of waiting when I heard the first cheep of snowy inside the egg….. yes… you can hear the fully formed chicks inside the eggs some times u can even feel their slight movements in the attempt to break the shell then slowly and staidly he cracked the shell and out came a beautiful white fur ball !that’s why we named him snowy. He was the only chick that hatched the other four couldn’t make it .The arrival of Snowy was like a ray of happiness for my little daughters they just adored him. Snowy was just 10 days old when his mother got sick and died .the only company snowy had was gone and this little sole was left all alone to face this world and grow …. Alone …this fact made me really sad so I decided to buy another chick of the same age to give snowy some company. In the beginning snowy missed his mother like hell but then gradually he recovered out of the grief and started enjoying the company of his friend !now I was a mother to them both and they grew in my love so quickly in about just seven weeks Snowy and Shy guy (snowy’s friend) grew into baby cockerels. Shy guy was almost double the size of snowy because of the difference in their breeds but they always went along well with each other. Introducing them to our flock of eight grown up chickens was also an event ,as shy guy was easily excepted in the flock because of his big size and shy nature but snowy had a hard time he used to receive a lot of pecking from other chickens but he patiently tried and eventually he was not only excepted by the flock but he even started to bully some of the hens it was quite funny to see him doing that! imagine a small bird running after and pecking a hen who is double his size. With my daughters he used to behave like a lap cat he would just love to follow them play with them and to be fondled .we enjoyed snowy’s company for just 4 months and then one day he just vanished from our back yard what happened to him is he alive or dead no one knows ........................but i and my family still miss snowy like any thing.

See the video of snowy with his mum.
